NOW OralBiotic provides Streptococcus salivarius K12 (BLIS K12) — one of the most numerous beneficial bacteria naturally found in the healthy mouth. BLIS K12 produces bacteriocin-like inhibitory substances (BLIS) that competitively inhibit the growth of odour-causing and harmful oral bacteria, supporting fresh breath, throat health, and upper respiratory defence. Slow-dissolving lozenges ensure prolonged release in the oral cavity.
BLIS K12 is a strain of Streptococcus salivarius that naturally colonises healthy mouths. It produces proteins called bacteriocins that inhibit the growth of competing bacteria responsible for bad breath, gum disease, tonsillitis, and ear infections. By repopulating the mouth with K12, it creates an environment less hospitable to harmful oral bacteria.
Oral probiotics are designed to colonise the mouth and throat, not the gut. They are taken as lozenges that slowly dissolve in the mouth, releasing bacteria that can attach to oral tissues. They target oral health issues like bad breath, tooth decay bacteria, and throat infections rather than digestive health.
Allow one lozenge to dissolve slowly in the mouth at bedtime, after brushing teeth. Avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after use. For best colonisation, avoid rinsing the mouth immediately after the lozenge dissolves.
Many users notice improvement in breath freshness within 1–2 weeks of daily use. Consistent, long-term use supports sustained BLIS K12 colonisation for ongoing benefits.
BLIS K12 lozenges are safe for children and adults. For children, ensure they can safely allow a lozenge to dissolve in the mouth without swallowing it whole. Check the label for specific age guidance.
