SoloSite Gel Preserved is a sterile, multi-use, amorphous hydrogel from Smith+Nephew that creates and maintains an optimal moist wound healing environment. The hydrogel desloughs and debrides devitalised tissue, donates moisture to dry wounds, and absorbs minimal exudate — making it suitable for a wide range of wound types. The preserved formula (with methylparaben/propylparaben) allows the tube to be used multiple times after opening, making it more economical for ongoing wound management. 50g tube.
SoloSite Gel is indicated for: sloughy wounds requiring debridement, dry or dehydrated wound beds requiring moisture donation, granulating wounds requiring moisture maintenance, leg ulcers, pressure injuries (stages 2–4), diabetic foot ulcers, and surgical wounds healing by secondary intention. It is not appropriate for heavily exuding wounds — for these, absorbent dressings (hydrofibre, foam) are more appropriate.
Autolytic debridement is the body's natural process of using its own enzymes and moisture to soften and break down devitalised (dead) tissue, slough, and eschar. SoloSite Gel creates and maintains the moist environment required for these endogenous enzymes to work effectively — the hydrogel slowly rehydrates slough and necrotic tissue, allowing it to separate from viable wound tissue without the trauma of sharp or mechanical debridement.
Clean the wound with saline or appropriate wound cleanser. Apply SoloSite Gel to fill the wound bed to a depth of approximately 3–5mm, or apply to a primary contact dressing. Cover with a secondary dressing (film, foam, or hydrocolloid) to retain moisture. Change every 1–3 days or as directed by your wound care nurse or practitioner.
The preserved formula contains antimicrobial preservatives (methylparaben, propylparaben) that prevent contamination of the remaining gel after the tube is first opened. This allows safe use of the same tube across multiple dressing changes — making it more economical than single-use sachets for ongoing wound management. Use within the period specified on the packaging after opening.
Seek assessment from your GP, wound care nurse, or podiatrist for: wounds showing signs of infection (increasing pain, heat, redness, pus), wounds that are not improving after 2 weeks of appropriate management, diabetic foot wounds, deep or undermined wounds, and wounds with exposed bone or tendon. SoloSite Gel is a wound management product — complex wounds require professional clinical assessment.
