MoliCare Skin Barrier Cream with Zinc Oxide is a gentle yet effective zinc oxide-containing protective cream designed for perineal skin care in people with incontinence. Zinc oxide provides a physical barrier that repels moisture and protects skin from the irritating effects of urine and faeces, helping to prevent and manage incontinence-associated dermatitis (IAD).
The 200ml size provides excellent value for regular home or clinical use. The cream has a skin-balanced pH and is dermatologically tested for use on sensitive perineal skin. Available from Pakuranga Pharmacy.
A: Zinc oxide creams provide a visible white barrier layer — highly effective at repelling moisture but may leave residue that makes skin assessment harder and can be messy. Zinc-free transparent creams (like MoliCare Skin Barrier Cream Transparent) allow skin assessment without removal. In practice, zinc oxide is preferred when maximum barrier protection is needed; transparent creams are preferred in clinical settings where frequent skin assessment is required.
A: Apply a generous layer to clean, dry perineal skin at each pad change. A visible white layer should remain between changes — top up if needed rather than removing and reapplying the full amount, which reduces skin trauma from repeated wiping.
A: For minor redness or early-stage skin breakdown, zinc oxide cream provides soothing protection. For open wounds or severe IAD, consult a healthcare professional for appropriate wound care. The barrier cream protects surrounding intact skin while treatment products address the wound.
A: Yes — zinc oxide barrier cream is used across all age groups for skin protection. It is commonly used for both elderly incontinence care and in paediatric settings. The dermatologically tested formula is gentle enough for sensitive and fragile skin.
