Seeking Health DAO Enzyme provides DAOgest®, a patented and clinically researched diamine oxidase (DAO) enzyme derived from porcine kidney extract. DAO is the primary enzyme responsible for breaking down histamine in the digestive tract. Each capsule releases its contents in the small intestine, where it immediately begins digesting histamine from food, drink, gut immune activity and the microbiome. Available in a convenient 30-capsule starter size — ideal for those new to DAO supplementation or for travel.
Diamine oxidase (DAO) is the main enzyme your body uses to break down histamine from food. If you have low DAO activity — from genetics, gut inflammation or other factors — histamine can accumulate and cause symptoms like headaches, flushing, hives, nasal congestion or digestive discomfort after eating high-histamine foods.
Take 1 capsule before eating or drinking as needed. It can also be taken away from food to support healthy histamine balance in the gut. For menstrual discomfort related to histamine, take as directed by your healthcare professional.
No. DAO Enzyme contains DAOgest®, derived from porcine (pork) kidney extract. It is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. It is however suitable for those on bariatric diets, methyl-sensitive individuals, pregnant and breastfeeding women (with approval), and children aged 4+.
Antihistamines block histamine receptors after histamine is already present, while DAO Enzyme works proactively by breaking down histamine in your gut before it is absorbed — making it particularly useful for food-triggered histamine reactions.
