The Oakwood Over Toilet Frame is a practical, durable toilet surround that attaches easily to the rear of the toilet to provide greater stability and support during sitting and rising — an essential aid for elderly people, those recovering from surgery, and people with mobility limitations. Made from lightweight but strong aluminium, the frame features moulded armrests for comfortable grip and is fully adjustable in both height and width to fit different toilet sizes and user requirements. Safe working load 100kg.
Over toilet frames are primarily used by people who have difficulty lowering onto and rising from the toilet — including elderly people with reduced leg strength, those recovering from hip, knee, or back surgery, people with Parkinson's disease or stroke affecting leg function, and those with arthritis or other mobility-limiting conditions. The armrests allow the user to push up from the toilet using their arms, significantly reducing the leg and core strength required to rise safely.
The frame attaches to the rear of the toilet cistern or toilet back — no floor installation or drilling is required. The quick-fit design allows for easy installation and removal, making it suitable for use in rental properties and for families sharing a bathroom where the aid is only needed by one person. Follow the included installation instructions for safe assembly.
Height adjusts from 650mm to 750mm from the floor. Width adjusts from 450mm to 550mm between armrests. This range accommodates most standard toilet heights and most user builds. If you have specific requirements outside this range, consult an occupational therapist for an appropriate alternative.
Yes — particularly for people with significant mobility impairment, complex balance issues, or post-surgical requirements, an occupational therapist (OT) assessment is strongly recommended. An OT can assess your transfer technique, toilet height requirements, and whether an over toilet frame — or a raised toilet seat, toilet chair, or grab rail — is most appropriate for your situation. OT assessment may also identify ACC or DHB equipment funding eligibility.
Yes — because the frame attaches to the toilet itself rather than the floor or walls, it is classified as non-permanent and generally does not require landlord consent for installation. This makes it suitable for use in rental accommodation where permanent bathroom modifications are not permitted. Always confirm specific circumstances with your landlord or property manager.
