NOW Nattokinase 100mg provides 2000 Fibrinolytic Units (FU) of nattokinase per capsule — a potent fibrinolytic (clot-dissolving) enzyme derived from natto (fermented soybean) with significant clinical evidence for supporting healthy blood flow, reducing fibrin (blood clot proteins), and supporting cardiovascular health. Nattokinase is one of the most studied natural enzymes for maintaining healthy blood viscosity and supporting healthy blood pressure.
Nattokinase is a serine protease enzyme produced by the bacterium Bacillus subtilis natto during the fermentation of soybeans to make natto (a traditional Japanese food). It has a direct fibrinolytic action — it breaks down fibrin, the protein that forms blood clots and thickens blood. It was discovered in 1987 and has since been the subject of extensive cardiovascular research.
Nattokinase reduces blood pressure through multiple mechanisms: it breaks down fibrin and pro-fibrin compounds that increase blood viscosity, reduces ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) activity which constricts blood vessels, and supports overall vascular flow. Clinical trials show meaningful blood pressure reductions with 2000 FU daily over 8–12 weeks.
No. Nattokinase is a nutritional supplement and is not a replacement for prescribed anticoagulants (warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban) or antiplatelet drugs (aspirin, clopidogrel). If you take blood-thinning medications, do NOT add nattokinase without consulting your cardiologist — combining may significantly increase bleeding risk.
Nattokinase is derived from fermented soybeans. However, during production the enzyme is typically isolated from the soy matrix. People with soy allergies should consult their doctor before taking nattokinase supplements. Check the product label for current soy allergen declarations.
Take nattokinase on an empty stomach — at least 30 minutes before or 2 hours after a meal for best absorption. Avoid taking close to mealtime as food proteins may interfere with the enzyme's activity before it reaches the bloodstream.
