NOW MSM provides 1000mg of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) per capsule — a naturally occurring, bioavailable organic sulphur compound found in plants, animals, and humans. Sulphur is the third most abundant mineral in the human body and is essential for the structural integrity of connective tissue, cartilage, collagen, keratin, and glutathione. MSM supplementation provides the bioavailable sulphur needed for ongoing joint health, skin and hair quality, and connective tissue maintenance. GMP certified, non-GMO, vegan. 120 capsules.
Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is an organosulphur compound naturally present in many plants and foods — particularly cruciferous vegetables, garlic, onions, and eggs — and is produced endogenously in humans. It is the primary bioavailable form of dietary sulphur. Processing and cooking significantly reduce MSM content in foods, making supplementation relevant for those with inadequate dietary sulphur intake or elevated needs.
MSM provides the sulphur required for the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) — the structural components of cartilage, tendons, and synovial fluid. Multiple clinical trials show MSM supplementation (at 1.5–6g/day) reduces joint pain, stiffness, and functional impairment in osteoarthritis. It also has direct anti-inflammatory effects, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-alpha) that drive joint damage.
Clinical trials typically use 1.5–6g (1500–6000mg) daily for joint benefits. At 1000mg per capsule, 2–4 capsules daily (taken with meals) falls within the studied range. Higher doses may be needed for significant joint conditions — split doses across 2–3 meals for better gastrointestinal tolerance. Start with 1–2 capsules daily and build up to assess tolerance.
Yes. Sulphur is a key component of keratin — the structural protein of hair and nails — and of collagen. MSM supplementation is widely used for hair quality, nail strength, and skin elasticity and smoothness. These effects develop gradually over months of consistent daily use as keratin and collagen are produced and replaced.
MSM has an excellent long-term safety profile. It is well tolerated and non-toxic at typical supplemental doses. The only commonly reported side effect at high doses (above 6g/day) is mild gastrointestinal discomfort. No toxicity has been observed at doses up to 4.8g/day in clinical trials.
