The Frio Small Cooling Wallet fits two insulin pens and uses the same patented water-activated evaporative cooling technology as all Frio products — soaking in cold water activates the polymer crystals inside, which then maintain the interior at 18–26°C for 45+ hours through evaporative cooling. No ice, no refrigerator, no batteries. The Small size is ideal for users who carry two insulin pens (e.g. background and fast-acting insulin) or who want extra space for a pen plus supplies. Available in 5 colours.
The Individual wallet is sized for one insulin pen, making it the most compact and lightweight option for single-pen users. The Small wallet accommodates two insulin pens — ideal for Type 1 diabetics using both basal (background) and bolus (fast-acting) insulin who need to carry both pens throughout the day. Both use identical cooling technology.
Yes. All Frio wallet sizes use the same polymer crystal cooling panels and achieve the same 18–26°C temperature maintenance for 45+ hours. The larger size does not reduce cooling effectiveness.
Submerge the empty wallet in cold or cool tap water for 5–10 minutes until the inner panels feel fully swollen and gel-like. Remove from water, wipe the exterior, and insert your insulin pens. Re-soak every 24–48 hours in hot conditions or when the panels start to feel less firm. In cooler conditions, the wallet can last longer between soakings.
Yes. While designed for insulin, Frio wallets are suitable for any liquid medication or biological that needs to stay cool — including injectable biologics (auto-injectors for rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, etc.), eye drops requiring cool storage, and other temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical products. Check your medication's storage requirements to confirm 18–26°C is within range.
Yes. Frio wallets are widely used in international air travel. They are not gel packs (which may have liquid restrictions) — the polymer crystals are a solid form when dry and a gel when soaked. Airlines and airport security generally accept Frio wallets as medical device accessories. Carry your prescription and insulin documentation when travelling internationally.
