Fleurstat BV Vaginal Gel is formulated to address the symptoms of bacterial vaginosis (BV) - one of the most common vaginal conditions in women, caused by an imbalance in the vaginal bacterial environment. Fleurstat works by restoring the natural acidic pH of the vagina, creating conditions that favour the return of beneficial Lactobacillus bacteria over the harmful bacteria associated with BV.
Available from Pakuranga Pharmacy.
Antibiotic treatments for BV (metronidazole, clindamycin) work by directly killing the harmful bacteria causing the imbalance. Fleurstat works differently - by restoring the vaginal pH to the natural acidic range that favours Lactobacillus growth. This creates an environment where beneficial bacteria can re-establish naturally. Fleurstat can be used as a first-line option for mild BV or as a maintenance treatment to prevent recurrence after antibiotic treatment. For moderate to severe BV, antibiotic treatment under medical supervision is typically required.
See your doctor if: symptoms are severe or worsening, you have pelvic pain or fever, this is your first episode of unusual vaginal symptoms (to rule out STIs), you are pregnant, or symptoms do not improve after a full course of Fleurstat. BV during pregnancy requires medical assessment and treatment. Our pharmacist can help determine whether Fleurstat is appropriate for your situation or whether a doctor visit is needed.
Follow the instructions on the label for the recommended treatment course - typically applied for several consecutive nights. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve earlier. For BV prevention after antibiotic treatment, a maintenance schedule of periodic Fleurstat application may help reduce recurrence in women who experience repeated episodes.
