Doctor's Best Vitamin D3 1000IU provides cholecalciferol — the most bioavailable form of vitamin D — in a convenient softgel format. Vitamin D3 is essential for calcium absorption, bone density, immune function, mood regulation, and cardiovascular health. With 180 softgels per bottle, this represents excellent value for daily supplementation throughout the year.
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is the form produced naturally by the skin in response to sunlight. Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is plant-derived. D3 is more effective at raising blood vitamin D levels and is the preferred form for supplementation.
Vitamin D deficiency is very common, especially in people who work indoors, live in cloudy climates, have darker skin, are elderly, or cover their skin for cultural reasons. A blood test (25-OH Vitamin D) can confirm your levels. Ask your GP if you are unsure.
1000IU is a good maintenance dose for most people who get some regular sun exposure. People with confirmed deficiency or limited sun exposure may need higher doses (2000–5000IU) under medical guidance. The safe upper limit for adults is generally considered 4000IU per day long-term.
Take Vitamin D3 with a meal containing fat to maximise absorption. Many people take it with breakfast or lunch. Avoid taking it in the evening as it may affect sleep quality in some individuals.
Some practitioners recommend taking D3 alongside Vitamin K2 (MK-7) to ensure calcium is directed into bones rather than soft tissues. If you are taking high-dose D3 long-term, ask your healthcare provider about K2 co-supplementation.
