Clinicians GastroEzy provides rapid, natural support for normal stomach acid balance after eating — combining DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice), calcium carbonate, and magnesium carbonate in a pleasant-tasting chewable tablet. DGL licorice has been shown to stimulate the protective mucus layer of the stomach lining, while the carbonate salts provide rapid acid neutralisation. A natural, non-addictive alternative to conventional antacids that also helps protect the stomach lining.
DGL (deglycyrrhizinated licorice) is licorice root extract from which glycyrrhizin — the compound responsible for raising blood pressure in regular licorice — has been removed. DGL retains licorice's therapeutic mucosa-protective properties: it stimulates mucus secretion from the stomach lining cells, increases the thickness and quality of the protective mucous layer, and prolongs the life of stomach epithelial cells. This helps protect the stomach lining from acid damage rather than just neutralising acid temporarily.
The calcium and magnesium carbonate component provides rapid acid neutralisation (typically within minutes of chewing), similar to conventional antacids. The DGL component provides a more sustained protective effect on the stomach mucosa. For best results, chew the tablets thoroughly before swallowing to activate the acid-neutralisation reaction.
Yes. GastroEzy is suitable for regular use. Unlike proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), which reduce acid production and are associated with nutritional deficiencies and rebound acid hypersecretion with long-term use, GastroEzy works without suppressing acid — making it appropriate for ongoing management of mild heartburn and reflux without the concerns of long-term PPI use.
DGL licorice and antacids are generally considered safer during pregnancy than PPIs or H2 blockers. Heartburn is very common in pregnancy. Consult your midwife or GP before starting any supplement during pregnancy, but GastroEzy is considered a relatively gentle, natural approach to pregnancy-related heartburn.
See your GP if: you have persistent reflux despite treatment, difficulty swallowing, chest pain (to rule out cardiac causes), unexplained weight loss, persistent nausea or vomiting, or if you need heartburn relief more than 3 times per week. These may indicate GORD or other conditions requiring medical assessment.
