Blackmores Travel Calm Ginger provides a concentrated dose of dried ginger root (Zingiber officinale) to help prevent and relieve nausea and vomiting associated with travel sickness (motion sickness) — whether by car, boat, plane, or train. Ginger has a long history of traditional and clinical use for nausea, and is particularly suitable for people who prefer a natural alternative to antihistamine-based motion sickness medications, or who cannot tolerate antihistamine side effects (drowsiness).
Ginger's active compounds — gingerols and shogaols — work in the digestive system and central nervous system to reduce the activity of the gut contractions and nausea signals that cause motion sickness. Unlike antihistamines (which work on the vestibular system), ginger primarily acts on the gut — making it particularly effective for nausea with a gastric component.
Yes. Unlike conventional motion sickness medications (Dramamine, Avomine) which contain antihistamines and cause drowsiness, ginger is completely non-sedating. This makes it ideal for drivers, pilots, and anyone who needs to remain alert during travel.
Take 2 tablets 30 minutes before travel, then 2 tablets every 4 hours during travel if needed. For best effect, take before nausea starts rather than waiting until symptoms develop. Keep taking if needed for longer journeys.
Ginger is the first-line recommendation for morning sickness in most pregnancy guidelines — it is widely studied and considered safe in the doses used in supplements. Always consult your midwife or GP before taking any supplement during pregnancy.
Check the product label for age suitability. Ginger is generally safe for children at appropriate doses, but confirm the recommended age range on the current label before giving to young children.
