NOW Arginine & Citrulline combines L-arginine (500mg) and L-citrulline (250mg) — two synergistic amino acids that work together to maximise nitric oxide (NO) production. Nitric oxide is the key signalling molecule that causes blood vessels to relax and dilate (vasodilation), improving blood flow and circulation throughout the body. This combination is used to support cardiovascular health, exercise performance, endurance, and muscle pump during training.
L-arginine is the direct precursor to nitric oxide but is rapidly broken down in the gut and liver before reaching the bloodstream. L-citrulline has much better oral bioavailability and is converted back to arginine in the kidneys, raising blood arginine levels more effectively than arginine alone. Together, they provide superior and sustained nitric oxide support.
Nitric oxide signals blood vessel walls to relax (vasodilation), reducing vascular resistance and improving blood flow. This supports healthy blood pressure, improves circulation to peripheral tissues, reduces arterial stiffness, and supports overall cardiovascular function.
Nitric oxide is the primary mediator of penile erection — it is the same pathway targeted by phosphodiesterase inhibitors. L-arginine and L-citrulline have been studied for mild-to-moderate erectile dysfunction with modest positive results. They are not as potent as prescription medications but may provide meaningful support as a nutritional approach.
Take 30–60 minutes before exercise for pre-workout nitric oxide and performance support. Some people also take a dose on rest days to support ongoing cardiovascular and circulation benefits.
Consult your cardiologist before taking arginine supplements if you have a history of heart attack, heart failure, or are on nitrate medications — as combining NO-boosting supplements with nitrates can cause dangerous blood pressure drops. For healthy adults, standard doses are generally well tolerated.
