Anthisan Cream contains the topical antihistamine mepyramine maleate to provide rapid relief from the itching, swelling and discomfort of insect bites, stings and nettle rash. Applied directly to the affected area, Anthisan works locally to block histamine receptors in the skin — reducing the itch, redness and swelling response triggered by insect venom and plant contact.
Available from Pakuranga Pharmacy.
A: Anthisan's topical antihistamine acts directly at the site of histamine release in the skin — blocking local H1 receptors that cause itching, redness and swelling. Oral antihistamines work systemically (throughout the body) but may take longer to reach the bite site in effective concentrations. For localised reactions like bites and stings, topical antihistamine cream provides faster, more targeted relief without the potential drowsiness of oral antihistamines.
A: Anthisan is suitable for bites from mosquitoes, midges, sandflies, fleas and other insects, as well as bee and wasp stings (after ensuring the sting has been removed), and skin contact with stinging nettles and other irritant plants. It is not suitable for severe allergic reactions — if you experience signs of anaphylaxis (difficulty breathing, throat swelling, severe widespread rash), seek emergency medical help immediately.
A: Topical antihistamine creams typically provide noticeable itch relief within 15–30 minutes of application. The localised action means relief is often faster than waiting for an oral antihistamine to be absorbed and distributed. Reapply as directed on the label — typically up to 3 times daily — if itching returns.
A: Anthisan Cream can be used on children, but check the label for the minimum age recommendation and appropriate use in young children. For babies and very young children, consult our pharmacist before applying any topical antihistamine product. Do not apply to broken skin, near the eyes, or over large areas of skin without medical advice.
