The USL Sport GelMax Mouthguard Senior is designed for players aged 15 years and over — the adult-size version of the popular GelMax dual protection mouthguard. The gel cushioning layer provides enhanced impact absorption compared to standard mouthguards, helping reduce the risk of concussion and dental injury in adult contact sports including rugby, hockey and martial arts.
Boil-and-bite fitting for a customised, comfortable fit. Available from Pakuranga Pharmacy.
A: The GelMax incorporates a gel cushioning layer that provides additional shock absorption beyond standard boil-and-bite mouthguards. This enhanced cushioning is designed to further reduce the transmission of impact forces to the jaw and skull — offering better protection against both dental injuries and the concussive forces associated with high-impact contact sport.
A: New Zealand Rugby mandates mouthguard use for all players in training and competition from junior through to senior levels. While the regulations specify that a mouthguard must be worn, they do not mandate a specific type or brand. The GelMax Senior meets and exceeds these requirements. Check your specific competition's rules for any additional requirements.
A: Boil water and allow to cool to approximately 70°C. Submerge the mouthguard for 30 seconds until softened. Remove carefully, shake off excess water, place in the mouth and bite down firmly while using fingers and tongue to mould the guard tightly against teeth and gums. Hold for 30–45 seconds then rinse in cold water to set. Re-mould if needed.
A: Replace your mouthguard at the start of each season or when it shows signs of wear, tearing or significant compression of the gel layer. A worn mouthguard provides reduced protection. Adult mouthguards typically last one full season with regular use — inspect before each training session and replace promptly if damage is noticed.
