USL Sport Underwrap in black is a light foam pre-tape underwrap used to protect the skin before the application of rigid or elastic adhesive tape. The black colour is popular for athletes who prefer a coordinated look with black EAB and K-tape — providing the same skin protection as white underwrap with a bold, professional aesthetic.
7.5cm width, 27m roll. Available from Pakuranga Pharmacy.
A: Yes — black and white USL Sport Underwrap have identical foam construction and skin protection properties. The only difference is colour. Black is chosen purely for aesthetic preference, particularly when combined with black rigid tape or black EAB for a coordinated dark tape appearance. Functionally both protect skin equally well.
A: Black underwrap can be slightly visible through very thin or light-coloured EAB tape. If maintaining a clean white appearance for the outer tape is important, use white underwrap underneath. For black or dark-coloured outer tape, black underwrap provides a seamless, coordinated finish.
A: Apply 1–2 smooth, thin layers without excessive overlap. The goal is to protect the skin, not to add significant bulk to the strapping. Excess underwrap can reduce the rigidity of the outer tape and create wrinkles that lead to pressure points. A single smooth layer is usually sufficient for most applications.
A: Underwrap is not essential for every application, but is strongly recommended when: applying tape to the same area repeatedly throughout a season, strapping areas with sensitive or fragile skin, applying tape that will be worn for extended periods, or for players with known tape allergies who tolerate foam better than adhesive directly on skin.
