The USL Sport Wrap 'N' Ice has been designed to assist with the immediate application of cold therapy for acute sports injuries. The system consists of a 3-litre ice bag that attaches to a neoprene wrap, allowing ice and cold water to be secured directly against the injured area with consistent contact and mild compression — providing more effective cold therapy than simply holding an ice bag against the injury.
Reusable and durable — a practical investment for sports clubs, clinic rooms and home first aid kits. Available from Pakuranga Pharmacy.
A: Fill the 3-litre bag with ice and cold water, attach it to the neoprene wrap, and secure the wrap around the injured area using the straps or closures. The ice bag should sit firmly against the skin (with a thin cloth barrier to prevent ice burns) while the wrap holds it in compression against the injury. Apply for 15–20 minutes, then remove for at least 40 minutes before reapplying.
A: The Wrap N Ice system provides several advantages over simple ice packs: the ice-and-water combination conforms closely to body contours; the neoprene wrap provides simultaneous compression (the C in RICE); and the hands-free design allows the injured athlete to keep the area elevated while icing. Together these advantages make it a more complete acute injury management tool than a simple ice pack.
A: Fill the bag approximately two-thirds with ice and add enough cold water to cover the ice. The water helps the bag conform to body contours and ensures even cold transfer to the skin. Adding only ice without water creates air gaps that reduce cold transfer efficiency. Crushed or cubed ice both work well — crushed ice conforms better but melts faster.
A: After each use, empty the ice bag, rinse with clean water and allow to air dry completely before storage. Wipe the neoprene wrap with a damp cloth and mild detergent, then air dry. Do not machine wash the neoprene. Store in a dry, ventilated area away from direct sunlight to maximise the lifespan of the materials.
