Viraban Cold Sore Cream contains 5% aciclovir — the gold standard antiviral ingredient for treating cold sores caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1). Applied at the first sign of a cold sore (tingling, itching, or burning), Viraban can prevent the sore from developing fully or significantly shorten its healing time. For best results, start treatment as early as possible.
Pharmacy Medicine — applies to skin use only. Not for use in or around the eyes or genitals.
Apply at the very first sign of a cold sore — the tingling, itching, or burning sensation that precedes the blister. Early treatment is the most effective. If you apply before a blister forms, you may prevent the cold sore from appearing at all. Apply 5 times per day for 5 days.
No. Aciclovir treats active cold sores and can prevent or shorten outbreaks, but it does not eliminate the herpes simplex virus from the body. The virus remains dormant in nerve cells and can reactivate during periods of stress, illness, sun exposure, or immune suppression.
Yes. Viraban and Zovirax both contain 5% aciclovir in a cream base and work in the same way. Viraban is the generic version and is clinically equivalent to Zovirax at a lower price.
No. Viraban Cold Sore Cream is for external use on the lips and surrounding skin only. Do not use inside the mouth, near the eyes, or on genital sores. Consult your doctor for appropriate treatment of oral or genital herpes.
Cold sore triggers include sun exposure, stress, illness, and hormonal changes. Using lip balm with SPF outdoors, managing stress, and maintaining immune health can reduce frequency. For frequent recurrences (more than 6 per year), discuss preventative oral antiviral medication with your doctor.
