Melolin Absorbent Dressings from Smith+Nephew are clinically trusted low-adherent dressings designed for wounds with light to moderate exudate. The unique cross-woven polyester film facing is non-adherent to wound surfaces, minimising pain and trauma at dressing changes. The highly absorbent cotton/viscose pad underneath draws and retains wound fluid away from the wound surface. Available in 5cm×5cm and 10cm×10cm sizes.
Melolin is suitable for a wide variety of wounds including post-surgical wounds, lacerations, abrasions, minor burns, donor sites, and other wounds with light to moderate exudate. The low-adherent face is ideal for wounds where atraumatic dressing changes are important — such as skin tears in elderly patients.
Traditional gauze and some absorbent dressings can stick to wound surfaces as exudate dries, causing pain and tissue damage when removed. Low-adherent dressings like Melolin maintain a barrier between the absorbent pad and the wound, allowing dressing removal with minimal trauma and pain.
The 5cm×5cm size suits small wounds and finger/toe injuries. The 10cm×10cm is more appropriate for larger wounds, donor sites, or areas requiring more coverage. Cut Melolin to size if needed — the dressing can be trimmed without compromising its structure.
Melolin is primarily used as a primary (wound contact) dressing. It requires a secondary dressing or bandage to secure it in place, as it has no adhesive. Secure with tape, bandage, or a tubular retention bandage.
Yes. Melolin dressings are individually packaged as sterile products. Always use from a freshly opened sterile pack and discard any unused portion after the pack is opened.
